The Tauern motorail connects the Gastein valley with Carinthia
The popular Tauern Tunnel connects the Gastein Valley in Salzburg with the Möll Valley in Carinthia. With the ÖBB Tauern Tunnel, you can safely reach your vacation region Gastein, where you will find great vacation offers.
The car transport trains run every 60 minutes (departure times from Mallnitz to Böckstein: 5:50 AM to 10:50 PM), both northbound and southbound. The short travel time of 11 minutes flies by.
Loading time: 5 minutes before train departure. Travel time: 11 minutes; reservation not possible!
Not permitted for transport:
- Hazardous goods transports RID/ADR
- Vehicles over 25 tons
- Vehicles over 12.5 meters in total length

Trains towards the south from Böckstein: hourly at 20 minutes past every full hour - First train 6:20 a.m., last train 11:20 p.m.
Trains towards the north from Mallnitz: hourly at 10 minutes to every full hour - First train 5:50 a.m., last train 10:50 p.m.
Modernization of the Tauern Tunnel
The Tauern Tunnel will be completely closed from February 8 to July 9, 2027 during the construction phase.
The scheduled passenger traffic will be carried out as a rail replacement service by buses, and the night train service will be rerouted.
