On the occasion of the Salzburg Museum Day 2026, the Montanmuseum Altböckstein is open for free!
For the eleventh time, the Salzburg Museum Weekend 2026 invites you to discover the exciting world of museums with free admission! Under the motto “Museum connects in a diverse world” numerous museums in the city and province of Salzburg will open their doors on May 16 and 17, 2026 and present a diverse special program.
On Saturday, May 16, 2026, 13 institutions in the expanded city area of the state capital will create a diverse program with creative activities for young and old.
On Sunday, May 17, 2026, 56 regional museums, collections, and exhibition houses in all districts invite you to exciting educational offers, hands-on stations, and special insights. Look forward to new exhibitions, interactive actions, inspiring perspectives, and surprising encounters.

11:00 AM - Special tour for children
This free special tour is aimed specifically at children – parents are, of course, also warmly welcomed.
Together, the special exhibition in the Montan Museum Altböckstein will be explored, with a special focus on the life of the miners in the Middle Ages.
Playfully and vividly, it will be conveyed how people lived and worked at that time. Duration about 1 hour.
3:00 PM – Special tour for everyone
This tour is suitable for all interested parties and offers exciting insights into the Montan Museum Altböckstein.
A special focus will be on the exhibition on the beginning of the Peasants' Wars, particularly in the Gastein Valley. Historical backgrounds and regional references will be explained vividly. Duration about 1 hour.
Participation in the tours is free, voluntary donations are welcome.
