Description

For leisurely hikers!

During this impressive hike, we encounter testimony to the age of goldmining, which was in its heyday during the mid-16th century. The hiking path begins at the Gastein Healing Gallery, leading in a series of steep switchbacks up through Haitzing Forest. The Hieronymus Haus, which was constructed under Salzburg’s last reigning archbishop, Hieronymus Graf Colloredo, was built for his miners, though fell victim to an avalanche in 1975. Remnants of miners’ huts, ore processing sites and hoists can still be clearly recognized. Variant: Avid hikers might wish to extend their tour via the Peter-Sika-Weg to the Blumfeldköpfl and then to Sportgastein.
