The high plateau at the end of the valley is convincing in summer and winter
Sportgastein already carries the sport in its name. And indeed, surrounded by majestic three-thousand-meter peaks, you can pursue sporting activities here all year round. The feeling of standing at 2,650 meters, the mountain peaks in the distance and the valley far below - you can experience this sublime feeling in Sportgastein all year round.
And in summer? This area captivates with magical alpine pastures and extended hiking paths – for example, to the two Bockhartseen lakes in Sportgastein. A hike that is even relatively easy for families to handle as well. Hungry hikers will be unable to resist the delicious food served at mountain huts along the way. And since we are on the topic of huts: The Nassfeldalm is open for the enjoyment of hikers and skiers. Here's another tip for you: Folk festivals are regularly held in the Nassfeld area. As you can see: Regardless of whether you are planning a winter holiday, summer vacation or a short escape in Gastein – Sportgastein is a magical magnet for everyone enjoying an active stay in Austria!
The locals still know Sportgastein as Nassfeld. Of all the Tauern valleys, Nassfeldtal boasts the broadest valley head – the actual “Nassfeld”. Bordered to the south by the imposing 3000ers of the main Tauern divide, to the east by the striking double peak of the Geiselkopf, while to the west the massive summit of the Murauerkogel rises towards the sky. Incidentally, one of the side valleys off the Nassfeld – Weissenbachtal – will actually lead you all the way to Mallnitztal in Carinthia.
We invite you to convince yourself about the sporting variety of Sportgastein! As you allow your sporting dreams to come true during your Salzburger Land vacation. We look forward to seeing you soon in Gastein!
