Impressions 2024

The Gastein Classics

For the third time, the valley floor of Sportgastein provided an impressive backdrop for the start of the 16th Ski Classics season. 30 PRO teams and 120 amateurs took part in the races on the high-altitude trail in Sportgastein on Saturday and Sunday.

The race series is known for its spectacular long-distance races. This year, Bad Gastein saw the premiere of a new, shorter race on the program. The individual time trial (ITT) over 7 kilometers proved to be an exciting format with close distances and made you want more. The flat course at 1,600 meters proved to be tougher than expected for many athletes. The races underline Gastein's expertise as a winter sports destination and once again attracted international attention.

Results of the ITT over 7 km

Led by Amund Hoel from Team Engcon, who won the race in 15:11.2, the Norwegian men achieved a triple victory. The two Austrians Lorenz Gruber and Matthias Waldauf (both Ski-Willy Marathon Team) finished in 88th and 90th place.

As in the men's race, Norway also secured the first three places in the women's race. The second success of Team Engcon on this day was achieved by Anikken Gjerde Alnæs. Due to a serious knee injury in the summer, the success came as a surprise to the athlete herself. She won in 17:39.9 ahead of her compatriots.

Anna Schmidhofer (Team Internorm Trentino GSG) from Austria managed a respectable 38th place, 2:06.7 behind the winner.

Results Bad Gastein Criterium

In the Bad Gastein Criterium over 36 km and more than 400 vertical meters, Amund Riege from Norway (Team Ramudden) won the men's race with a lead of just 0.1 seconds ahead of Emil Persson from Sweden (Lager 157 Ski Team), the winner of the overall standings for the 2022/23 season. Third place also went to a Swede, Axel Jutterström (Team Eksjohus).
Last year's winner Emilie Fleten from Norway (Team Ramudden) also dominated the women's race in 2024. She won the race in Sportgastein with a 30.5-second lead over Anikken Gjerde Alnæs (NOR, Team Engcon). In third place after a thrilling competition: the Olympic champion in the classic sprint and four-time medal winner from Pyeongchang 2018, Stina Nilsson from Sweden (Team Ragde Charge).

In the amateur races over 15 and 30 km, the Austrians celebrated several victories.

Particularly noteworthy here was Mario Seidl's 3rd place in the 15 km race (Austria, TSU St. Veit im Pongau), who celebrated his comeback after a serious knee injury with a time of 37:45.9 and was satisfied with the result.
