The "Wiener Sängerrunde" was founded in 1978 by Karl-Hans Straßl, a pupil of the well-known Austrian composer and choirmaster Prof. Leo Lehner, and is a mixed choir. Following the motto "Anyone can sing", over 50 ambitious singers sing in the "Wiener Sängerrunde" today. Karl-Hans Straßl led the choir from 1978 to the beginning of 2000, since 2000 his son Karl-Gerhard Straßl has been the first choirmaster and Karl-Hans Straßl the second choirmaster. The "Wiener Sängerrunde" sings folk songs in the original languages, Viennese music (from the Johann Strauss era), serious music, sacred works (motets, masses, oratorios) and contemporary music. Contemporary choral music is a particular concern of the "Wiener Sängerrunde", which is why works by well-known choral composers such as Heinz Kratochwil, Herbert Ortmayr, Herwig Reiter and Gerhard Fitzinger are regularly performed. Close contacts and commissions have led to several works being dedicated to the "Wiener Sängerrunde"
