Krampus Exhibition in Dorfgastein
December 5th and 6th are days of deep-rooted tradition in the Gastein Valley. As snow blankets the villages and nights grow longer, the Krampuses take to the streets — driving away evil and rewarding the good. More than 100 groups, known as Passen, parade through the valley during this time.
In Dorfgastein, visitors can experience the Krampus up close. Around 14 local Passen present their intricately carved masks and elaborately crafted costumes. The exhibition offers fascinating insights into the history, meaning, and craftsmanship behind this age-old Alpine custom.
The Krampus Cinema brings the dark, mysterious spirit of Advent to life — a perfect prelude to the days when the Krampus groups, together with St. Nicholas and their basket carriers, visit homes throughout the valley. A truly unique experience where tradition meets a thrilling touch of the supernatural.
