1 trail, 6 stages, 75 kilometres and 4,643 metres in altitude. These are the bare figures of the Gastein Trail. But there is much more behind them than just great climbs, high-altitude trails with a view or a magnificent ascent. On the hiking tours that you experience as part of the Gastein Trail, the Gasteinertal presents itself from its most beautiful side. Wide meadows and dark green forests alternate with high alpine terrain and imposing peaks. In between, you will repeatedly encounter charming alpine huts on your hike, which invite you to take a break.

Can I hike from hut to hut - that is, just a few days on the mountain without having to go down into the valley?
Yes, you can do that especially well in Gastein. Along the west side of the valley, along lovely ridges and hidden kettle landscapes, the trail takes you from hut to hut and lets you forget everyday life. The Gastein Trail is a signposted path that showcases the beauty of the Gastein mountains from every angle.
How does the overnight stay on the alp look like?
It is recommended to make a reservation in advance so that you can actually find space. Often there are dormitories on the alpine pastures, but sometimes there are also double rooms. A hut sleeping bag is required.
Can I take dogs with me on hikes in Gastein?
In principle, dogs are allowed on hikes. Dogs must be kept on a leash during hikes. If other animals (cows, horses, ...) approach you, take the dog off the leash - it is faster than the other animals and can run away. In public transport (bus, but also gondola) is basically mandatory leash & muzzle. If you want to take a dog with you, we ask for prior consultation with the hut.
